Brilliant businesses from across the Northern Territory compete for prestigious Awards

A luxury pet resort offering pet-friendly ice blocks and doggy tapas joins a local theatre, a dance studio, restaurants and others as state finalists in the 2016 Telstra Northern Territory Business Awards.

Now in their 24th year, the Telstra NT Business Awards showcase and celebrate the achievements of the Territory’s most brilliant small and medium businesses across four categories: New Business, Micro Business, Small Business, and, for the first time, Charity, which is designed to recognise the significant contribution of not-for-profit organisations to not only communities but the economy as well.

Among the five Top End charities in competition for the inaugural Charity Award is Mental Health Association of Central Australia. The not-for-profit organisation works to redress the stigma of mental illness and provides support services to people in the Northern Territory, which has the highest rate of suicide and trauma of any state or territory.

Other finalists include Mexican bar and restaurant, Hot Tamale, which boasts one of the largest tequila bars in the southern hemisphere, as well as event technology provider, Dreamedia Events, mobile device repairer, SmartLab and customisable uniform supplier, TERRITORY UNIFORMS.

Showing the breadth of the NT finalists, the Furry Godmother is a luxury pet resort at Darwin International Airport, providing a safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for cats and dogs in their owners’ absence.

Telstra Business Awards ambassador, Andy Ellis, said this year’s finalists are once again showing Australia that the Territory is full of innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit.

“The Telstra Business Awards shine a light on brilliant businesses in every corner and every sector of Australia. We are pleased to see that the finalists in the Northern Territory are committed to the local community, with a wealth of ideas and inspiring ways to serve those around them.”
